Boğaziçi University’s Institute of Film and Media Studies is delighted to announce the launch of its monthly film screening events.
The first event, titled “Specters of the Nakba: The Palestinian Memory on Film,” presents a thoughtfully curated film selection that aims to cultivate a critical politics of memory and illuminate the broader historical context of the current crisis in Palestine. Centered on the intricate layers of the Nakba (Catastrophe), this event offers a nuanced perspective covering both its historical roots and contemporary dimensions. The four films selected for this month are as follows, respectively: The Time That Remains (Al-zamān al-bāqī, Elia Suleiman, 2009), Tantura (Alon Schwarz, 2002), Lemon Tree (Etz Limon, Eran Riklis, 2008), and Fertile Memory (Al-dhākira al-khasba, Michel Khleifi, 1980). Screenings will take place every Wednesday throughout December at 18:00 at Mithat Alam Hall and are free of charge, providing students with a unique opportunity to engage with the multifaceted layers of Palestinian resistance and develop a profound understanding of the human stories at the heart of an ongoing struggle.
