Boğaziçi University’s Institute of Film and Media Studies is launching its first monthly film screening programme for the 2024-2025 academic year, with a focus on the ongoing genocide in Gaza, Palestine.
The October 2024 screenings will feature a selection of documentary films that explore the history of Zionist terror in Palestine, both before and after 1948. These films aim to underscore that the humanitarian crisis in Palestine did not begin on October 7, as claimed by Israel, but has far deeper roots, tracing back to 1897 with the advent of the Zionist movement. The programme also includes a special documentary film screening dedicated to Turkish-American pro-Palestinian activist Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who was brutally killed by Israeli soldiers on 6 September 2024. In her memory, the documentary Rachel (2009) by French-Moroccan filmmaker Simone Bitton, which tells the story of American activist Rachel Corrie, who was killed in 2003 by an Israeli armoured bulldozer, will be shown.
